Slow Cooker Honey Garlic Chicken is a delicious and easy meal that the whole family loves me!  Chicken cooked in a sweet sauce and perfect served over sticky rice!

Honey garlic chicken crockpot recipe is starting with bone-in chicken breasts are cooked until tender in the slow cooker. You can, of course, use the boneless (or even chicken thighs as used in recipes Slow Cooker Chicken Bourbon me) If you prefer but I found bones in giving a better taste and the meat more tender.

If you are not familiar with hoisin sauce, often called Chinese barbecue sauce and it's often added to stir-fries and Asian dipping sauce. This sweet and salty taste like ketchup but also adds a very unique punch to it!  If you've never tried it, we can't get enough ... perfect to marinate grilled meats too!

Ingredients
  • 4 large bone-in chicken breast skin is removed
  • low sodium, 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/3 cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons chopped fresh ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chili flakes
  • 5 cloves chopped garlic
  • 1 small onion finely diced
  • 2 tbsp corn flour

Instructions
  • Combine soy sauce, honey, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, fresh ginger, minced garlic, and chili flakes.
  • Place the chicken breasts in a slow cooker and pour the sauce over. Cook low for 4-5 hours.
  • Remove chicken from slow cooker and then shred, then set aside.
  • In a small bowl, combine 3 tablespoons water and corn flour. Place the liquid from slow cooker into a pot and bring to a boil. While stirring the liquid, add the cornstarch mixture a little at a time and stir until thickened. Let boil 1 minute.
  • Pour the sauce over the shredded chicken and stir to combine.
  • Serve over rice with toppings as desired.

Recipe note
  • You may not need all of the cornstarch mixtures depends on how much fluid you produce chicken.

Don't miss the fresh ginger in this recipe!  The ginger tastes good and it's really cheap.  I personally buy ginger for a small button under $1 at the grocery store and just as I need it, I use a cheese grater to grate the amount desired (I didn't even Peel first).  I keep it on the counter for up to a week of 3-4 and if I notice started to get a little older, I threw it into the freezer (and I grated the frozen right from the next time I need ginger).  It's perfect in stir-fries, Marinades or even adding a few pieces to the water when you cook rice!

It creates a lot of honey garlic sauce so it was perfect for rice or noodles. Most of the time we piled on a bed of rice and serve with some steamed vegetables (such as broccoli or even the Sesame ginger snap peas) on the side for an easy delicious meal.  I've also served it over noodles with our favorite Asian stir-fry vegetables.
