How to Broccoli Rice Casserole from Scratch

Ingredients:
  • 6 cups fresh broccoli cut into bite-sized pieces.
  • 2 cups cooked white rice.
Sauce:
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3/4 cups diced onion (about 1 small)
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4 TSP garlic every & black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • salt to taste
  • 3 tablespoons cream cheese
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Cook the onion and butter over medium-low look softened translucent. Stir in the flour, garlic powder, and pepper. Cook an additional 1 minute.
  • Gradually pour the milk in the next toss. Continue whisking over medium heat turned thick and bubbly. Remove from heat and add the dry mustard, paprika, cream cheese and 1 1/2 cup cheddar cheese. Stirring melting changed.
  • Place the broccoli in the boiling water for about 2 minutes. You can be a little crunchy recommended cooking in the oven.
