Crock Pot Bourbon chicken easy and delicious! Juicy chicken cooked in a rich sauce of ginger bourbon for a delicious meal.
We loved this Crock Pot meals served over rice with a side of steamed broccoli.
I have read that Bourbon Chicken got the name because of the purportedly created by a chef working in a Chinese restaurant on Bourbon Street. Regardless of the name or how she became, this dish is absolutely delicious! This recipe creates a sweet and tender chicken is perfect served over rice and it is easy to make at home in the slow cooker!
Gravy for Bourbon chicken recipe takes just a few minutes and then it's the marinade preparation of mediator in the slow cooker all day! The result is insanely sweet chicken with Asian-inspired sauces and lots of flavors! We serve over the rice to absorb all the sauce delicious!
Ingredients
- chicken thighs Skinless boneless 3 lbs
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/4 cup sliced green onions (or more to taste)
Sauce
- 1/2 tsp grated fresh ginger
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red chili flakes
- 1/3 cups Apple juice
- 1 1/2 tablespoons honey
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons vinegar
- 1/4 cups water
- 1/4 cup Bourbon
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Mix all the sauce ingredients in a small bowl.
- Place the chicken in the slow cooker, then pour the sauce over. Cover and cook on low 6-7 hours or high 3 hours.
- Remove chicken and cut into bite-sized pieces and cover to keep warm.
- Meanwhile, combine 3 tablespoons water with cornstarch. Change the slow cooker up to high. Whisk the cornstarch slurry into the sauce. Cover and let it thicken, stirring occasionally (about 10 minutes). Stir the chicken back into the sauce and add the green onion.
- Serve over rice.
Recipe note
- This recipe is best made with regular (not) soy sauce.
- The sauce will also thicken on the stove. Make porridge as above and whisk over medium heat until thickened. Return to slow cooker and stir the chicken with green onions.

A few notes about this recipe ... this dish is sweet like Bourbon chicken is a sweet dish (similar to sweet and sour). Do not use soy sauce, the flavor and results are not the same. The best chicken thighs in this recipe because they would not dry out like slow-cooked chicken breasts sometimes do!
