Chicken Divan

The chicken divan casserole dish is chicken. First created in the Divan Parisien restaurant in New York City. It is a casserole of sliced chicken breast, broccoli spears, covered with Mornay sauce and baked until golden brown.
The Divan Parisien served chicken Divan as a delicious mainstay in years 1950 's. Chef or the chef who first made it's unknown. In France, the word divan refers to a meeting or Great Hall. The name was chosen to draw attention to the Divan Parisien owners by implying some sort of continental elegance.
Mornay sauce Bechamel sauce with cheese is shredded or grated added. Typically, this is half and half Gruyere Parmesan, although variations use different combinations of Gruyere, Emmental cheese, or white cheddar.
It is often served with seafood or vegetables.
Materials
- 1 1/2 lbs of fresh broccoli cut up into bite-sized
- 3 cups cooked Diced Chicken
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese divided
- 1/2 cups milk
- 2/3 cup sour cream
- 10.5 oz can condense cream of mushroom or chicken soup
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder onion powder, dry mustard, and pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon seasoning salt
- 3 tablespoons Panko bread crumbs
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
- Place the broccoli in a large pot of water to a boil and cook 2-3 minutes or just until tender crisp. Drain.
- In a medium bowl, combine 1 cup of cheddar cheese, milk, condensed soup, sour cream, and seasonings.
- Stir in the broccoli and chicken casserole dish and spread into 3qt (or pan 9 x 13). Top with the remaining cheese.
- In a small bowl, mix the bread crumbs and butter. Sprinkle topping over chicken mixture.
- Bake 18-20 minutes, or until bread crumbs Brown and mixture is bubbly and hot.
- Serve over rice, noodles, or mashed potato, as desired.
Chicken Divan got a taste of the rich and creamy signature from a mixture of cheddar cheese, milk, condensed mushroom soup, and sour cream. If you don't have cream of mushroom soup are useful, cream of chicken, cheddar, or broccoli taste amazing too in this recipe! Some of the recipes make chicken Divan with mayo, but I prefer to use sour cream.
I always use fresh broccoli chicken Divan I but you can also add cauliflower or asparagus (and we sometimes made with a dash of curry powder too)!
Butter and breadcrumb topping on a casserole Divan chicken it really gives the perfect finishing touch. Only the gold layer and Bake until everything else is hot and bubbly!
